COLOMBIA

Colombia is located in the northernmost corner of South America. As the only country in South America with coasts on both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, it’s unique characteristics lend it a distinguished geographical position on the globe.

Forty-six million inhabitants populate an area of 1,141,748 kilometers of widely diverse topography: three colossal mountain chains run North-South through jungle, rainforest, highlands and dessert.  Colombia boasts abundant hydrologic resources, allowing for a growing development in the generation of electricity, draining systems and fishing industries.

In addition to being the mystically exuberant and naturally beautiful country of yellow butterflies as described by Nobel Prize-awarded author Gabriel Garcia Marquez in One-hundred Years of Solitude, today Colombia is a forward-moving nation of great human potential, with a legislation adapted to stimulate industry and large scale production and to motivate foreign investment.

Traditionally reknowned for producing the best and most flavorful coffee in the world and the most beautiful and exotic flowers, today, thanks to the duly warranted contribution of the academic community and an entrepreneural spirit of the people.

BOGOTA

Bogotá, home of the Sergio Arboleda, was founded in 1538 by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. The city celebrated the beginning of the 20th century with a population of only 300,000, but is today a booming, urban metropolis with over 7,000,000 inhabitants – all of whom have at their disposal a variety of rich cultural opportunities and leisure activities.  Situated on the Eastern Chain of the Andes mountains at an altitude of 2,650 meters, the capital is not simply the cultural and political center of the country, but is also the home of the most important financial and educational institutions.

The city of Bogota has distinguished itself for its tradition of never-ending renovation.  The rapid and recent progess converted the Colombian capitol into a modern metropolois with impressive public buildings, numerous parks, ample business constructions, a modern airport, an ample ground transport terminal, elegant avenues and highways crossed by numerous modern-style overpasses and beautiful first-rate houses.  In addition, the city is crossed by a revolutionary and internationally lawded mass transportation system called Transmilenio, and dozens of bicycle pathways that surround the city in a harmonious circle.

SANTA MARTA

Santa Marta was founded on the 29th July in 1525 by Don Rodrigo de Bastides and  is one of the oldest cities in Colombia, built by the Spanish Conquerors.  Named The Pearl of the Americas, after its beautiful bay, it is the capital of the department (state, if you will) of Magdalena, which boasts a variety of natural resources which make it especially appealing and interesting to tourists, both domestic and foreign.  Among these are the Parque Tayrona or Tayrona Park, a variety of fishing establishments such as Tagonga, numerous Caribbean beaches and the beautiful Sierra Nevada, our own Colombian Alps.

It was here, 10 years ago, that the second branch of the Sergio Arboleda University was initiated with the Law School being it’s first academic program.  Now it boasts programs in Business Administration, Finances & Foreign Affairs and Comunication & Journalism.

Cogi mythology states “First there was the sea, all was dark.  There was no sun nor moon nor people nor animals nor plants.  The sea was everywhere....  The sea was mother, the mother was not the people, nor nothing nor any thing at all.  She was the spirit of what was to come, and she was thought and memory.”
